D&T Summer School @ Loughborough Design School

D&T Summer School @ Loughborough Design School, After a crazy few months of planning, our exciting new D&T Summer School ran on the 11th & 12th July 2014 at Loughborough University Design School. Over 160 teachers attended from across the country, and from as far afield as Hong Kong. The event was very well received by all those involved including staff from the D&T Association and the very helpful and generous University staff. The feedback has been excellent. The workshop sessions provided some inspirational, practical and valuable D&T resources and developed delegates’ skills. The success of the event...

Three-Day Intensive D&T Training for Non-Specialists

Three-Day Intensive D&T Training for Non-Specialists, Published by: Stephanie Antoniades, Marketing & Digital Content Assistant Recently, I had the privilege of attending a remarkable course hosted by the Design & Technology Association, the "Three-day Intensive D&T Training for Non-Specialists." As a new team member, I was particularly curious to gain firsthand knowledge about the courses we run, and this one specifically aimed at non-specialists, seemed like the perfect opportunity to dive in. What I experienced over those three days was not just a learning journey, but an inspiring exploration of the world of design and technology. ...

Review your Department

Review your Department: The D&T Association Self Review Framework, Register for the Self Review Framework (SRF) All schools are required to complete an annual self review. This generally requires secondary Subject Leaders to provide information to their Senior Management Team. We understand that the review process can be demanding and time consuming and difficult to undertake. We have produced a product to simplify this process. Our new Self-Review Framework and associated Design & Technology Mark have been designed to address this need. Take a look at this short Self-Review Framework video which...

Summer time...D&T teachers are chillin’

Summer time...D&T teachers are chillin’, With the school summer holidays now upon us, this seemed as good a time as any to reflect on the academic year just passed and specifically my almost seven months at the D&T Association. In a year in which the news has been pretty much dominated by Brexit, education appears to have been largely ignored by the press. Yes, we have a new Education Secretary as the previous incumbent was indicating that she was actually developing empathy for the intricacies of the post and therefore had to be moved on! Aside from...

GCSE and GCE Design and Technology developments: where are we?

GCSE and GCE Design and Technology developments: where are we?, There is no doubt about it, keeping up with the changes and possible implications for the future direction of design and technology (D&T) and related qualifications is challenging. The Awarding Organisations, the D&T Association and all those who provide the vital infrastructure that supports the subject are not to blame. Unfortunately, we are suffering from a system that has precious few experts in positions of influence and no experts employed by Government who can take on the role of the QCDA subject officers we once depended upon. Consequently, the passage...
