The Primary D&T Roadshow is a collaboration between STEM Learning and the Design & Technology Association, aimed at strengthening teachers’ confidence and subject knowledge in primary design & technology. You will explore what high-quality D&T looks like in practice and support teachers to distinguish authentic D&T from craft-based activities. You will be introduced to the essential elements of effective D&T, emphasising purposeful projects, creativity, problem-solving and opportunities for genuine pupil decision-making.
You will spend time unpacking the primary D&T curriculum, demystifying statutory requirements, expected progression from EYFS to KS2 and strategies for designing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
You will also receive further in-depth support through hands-on CAD and control technology sessions, helping teachers gain confidence with 2D/3D design tools and the classroom-appropriate microcontroller, micro:bit. The focus throughout is on practical application, ensuring you leave with the clarity, skills and ideas to develop strong, progressive D&T in their own schools.
