Behind the Scenes at Haberdashers’ Boys’ School
Published 1st July 2025
Yesterday we visited Haberdashers’ Boys’ School in Elstree to meet with the students behind the winning robotics team awarded the Excellence Award at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. The team shared insights into their experience and the work that went into securing a win on the international stage.
We were given a tour of the Design & Technology department, where students benefit from a supportive environment that encourages hands-on learning and innovative thinking. It was fantastic to see their CAD facilities and practical workshop areas as well as meet with some of the students.
During our visit, we spent time with the students in their VEX robotics workspace. They talked us through the development of their robot from initial ideas and design challenges to the refinements made along the way as well as how they overcame obstacles. It was clear that strong teamwork and perseverance played a big part in their achievement.
As well as gaining valuable technical skills, the students spoke about how the project helped build confidence and communication all of which were vital during the competition itself.
Not only have they secured a win but are now actively helping the next generation of students by helping guide them with their robot. These sessions give the younger students the opportunity to get practical advice from the team.
Congratulations again to the students. We’ll be sharing the full story, along with interviews and photos from the day, in the next issue of Practice magazine released in September.
