New Neon collections designed with teachers to support lasting STEM engagement
Published 19th May 2025
If you’ve ever felt that a one-off STEM activity just isn’t enough to make a lasting impact, you’re not alone—and now, there’s support to help. Neon, powered by EngineeringUK, has launched a brand-new series of curated collections to help teachers build meaningful, long-term STEM engagement in their classrooms.
Each collection has been developed with teachers at its core, shaped by classroom feedback and guided by educational research to provide a structured, flexible way to keep students inspired by engineering and technology.
Why these collections were created
EngineeringUK understands that while single STEM experiences can spark curiosity, they often don’t go far enough to embed a deep interest in engineering. That’s why they’ve introduced Neon’s new collections: to support teachers in delivering a sequenced series of activities that build over time.
These collections are all about helping students see how engineering connects to their everyday lives and how their own interests, skills and strengths might lead them into exciting careers they hadn’t considered before.
Built with teachers, backed by research
Developed in close collaboration with teachers and colleagues across EngineeringUK, the collections are grounded in a five-part framework designed to deliver impact:
- Showcase what engineering and technology can achieve
- Connect students’ interests and strengths with engineering roles
- Challenge stereotypes in engineering
- Provide opportunities for students to develop and use their skills
- Recognise and celebrate those skills
Using this approach, six themed collections have been created—each one packed with hands-on activities, real-world case studies and easy-to-follow guidance to help you use the materials in the way that works best for your pupils.
What’s in it for teachers?
These collections have been designed to make your life easier, while helping you deliver meaningful, long-lasting STEM experiences. Here’s what you’ll find:
- A clear structure: Each collection follows a sequenced approach to help you build students’ knowledge and confidence over time
- High-quality, free resources: From practical classroom activities to relatable case studies, there’s a range of materials ready to use
- Flexibility: Adapt the collections to suit your students’ needs, interests and learning styles
- Careers insight: Help students link their learning to future pathways by connecting classroom topics to real engineering careers
How to get
started
You can explore the new collections directly on the Neon platform. Each one comes with clear instructions and ready-to-use materials, making it easy to slot them into your existing curriculum. Whether you follow the full sequence or pick and choose what works best for you, the collections are there to support you every step of the way.
Help shape what’s next
EngineeringUK is keen to keep improving these resources based on what teachers really need. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping future updates, so they’re encouraging teachers to share what works—and what could work even better.
These collections aren’t just about STEM—they’re about supporting you to open up opportunities and inspire the next generation of engineers.
