Hertfordshire School’s Robotics Team Triumphs at VEX Robotics World Championship

The robotics team from Haberdashers’ Boys’ School has been awarded the Excellence Award at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas — the highest honour in the world’s largest school robotics competition. This prestigious award recognises outstanding achievement across engineering design, coding, collaboration, and innovation — all key pillars of the UK’s Design and Technology curriculum.
This victory marks a historic moment for UK schools, as Habs becomes the first UK team to win the Excellence Award at their programme level, and only the second UK team across all age programmes to receive the accolade in the competition’s 18-year global history.
It’s not just a win for one school — multiple UK teams excelled at the event, earning awards that highlighted their ability to design, prototype, problem-solve, and engineer under pressure. Their success showcases the incredible outcomes possible when young people are empowered with hands-on, practical learning that connects classroom theory with real-world application.
At a time when the UK is navigating a critical STEM and engineering skills shortage, achievements like this are a compelling case for stronger investment in Design and Technology education.
