MAN Group’s Design & Make Challenge

Published 12th November 2025

The MAN Group’s Design & Make Challenge is an annual event for Year 10–12 students, promoting careers in engineering, manufacturing and technology.

The Challenge will take place on Tuesday 7 July 2026 at The Junction building at the University of Warwick in Coventry. Schools and colleges are invited to enter teams to compete in three categories:

  • Innovation of Design

  • Design for Manufacture

  • Efficient Design

Each winning team will take home a 3D printer and filament for their school.

The challenge takes place over one day. Students work in small teams to design and make a mechanical device, with the specific task announced at the start of the event. Teams are provided with basic materials and tools to complete the project.

Apprentices and engineers from MAN Group companies support participants during the day, offering technical guidance and feedback. The event was first held in 2018 and has increased in size and participation each year. Feedback from schools has highlighted its practical and engaging approach to design and engineering.

The MAN Group hopes the challenge will inspire more young people to explore the world of engineering. It’s a great chance to try problem-solving in a practical, creative way and discover new skills along the way.
