Primary D&T roadshow to boost classroom confidence
Published 25th March 2026
A new hands-on professional development opportunity is set to support primary teachers in strengthening their approach to design & technology, with the upcoming Primary D&T Roadshow arriving this June.
Strengthen your primary D&T skills
Taking place on the 23rd June 2026 at the National STEM Learning Centre, this one-day course is a collaboration between STEM Learning and the Design & Technology Association. It has been carefully designed to help teachers feel more confident in both subject knowledge and classroom delivery.
Throughout the day, participants will explore what high-quality design & technology looks like in practice, with a clear focus on moving beyond craft-based activities. The course places emphasis on purposeful projects, creativity and real problem-solving, ensuring pupils are given meaningful opportunities to make decisions in their learning.
Teachers will also unpack the primary curriculum, gaining clarity on statutory requirements and progression from EYFS through to KS2. This structured guidance aims to make planning more manageable while supporting the development of engaging, hands-on experiences for pupils.
Practical skills to take back to the classroom
A key strength of the roadshow lies in its practical application. Teachers will take part in hands-on sessions using 2D and 3D CAD, alongside control technology with micro:bit. These experiences are designed to build confidence with tools that can enhance teaching and support progression across year groups.
By the end of the course, attendees will leave with clear strategies, practical ideas and renewed confidence to deliver strong, progressive design & technology in their schools.
With limited places available, this course offers a valuable opportunity for primary leaders and aspiring leaders to invest in their subject and enrich outcomes for their pupils.
