Self-Review Framework – effectively reviewing design and technology in your school
In early 2026, the D&T Association will transition to a new website and associated IT systems as part of its ongoing improvements. This will affect the Self-Review Framework and D&T Mark. The new system will have revised statements to work towards, will be renamed the ‘D&T Quality Mark’ and will not be able to transfer any evidence from the current one automatically.
As such, we will not be processing any additional applications using the current system. If you intend to apply for the ‘D&T Mark’, we would advise you to wait until the new system is in place in the first quarter of 2026. If you have begun to collate evidence, we advise you to keep copies to then apply on the new system (with different statements) after this time.
The Self-Review Framework (SRF), freely available as a membership benefit, is a tool designed to help you determine the quality and effectiveness of all aspects of Design and Technology provision in your school.
The SRF tool enables schools to compare and assess their current practice against a comprehensive set of quality standards. The SRF provides clear descriptors and examples of standards that constitute quality D&T and, in addition, provides examples of effective practice and a range of resources that schools can access to aid their development and improvement.
Completing the SRF will enable you to:
- thoroughly evaluate your current provision
- ensure you fully address the National Curriculum programmes of study for D&T and EYFS Framework (for primary)
- develop schemes of work that are focused on learning and made up of a range of appropriate D&T activities
- ensure that the contribution D&T makes to a broad and balanced curriculum is recognised within your school and externally by, for example, Ofsted.
