STEM Racing launches STEM Racing Discovery

A classroom project for pupils aged 6+

STEM Racing has launched STEM Racing Discovery, a new classroom-based STEM project designed to introduce pupils aged six and above to engineering and design through hands-on learning.

Developed by teachers for teachers, the newly launched programme aims to make STEM education more accessible and easier to deliver in the classroom, with ready-made resources and simplified setup designed to reduce teacher workload.

Working in pairs or small teams, pupils design, build, test and race their own model cars on a 12-metre track. Using pre-stamped chassis nets, wheels and axles, students create a standard racing car before developing their own body shell designs to improve aerodynamics and performance.

The programme includes six structured Units of Work covering teamwork, branding and development, aerodynamics, design and build, analyse and modify, and racing. Accompanying worksheets and teaching guides provide lesson plans, learning objectives, assessment activities and classroom support materials.

According to STEM Racing, the resources have been created as a “pick-up-and-go” solution, enabling teachers to deliver practical STEM activities without extensive preparation.

Alongside the classroom materials, STEM Racing Discovery includes a roll-out racetrack and a hand-powered air pump launch system, allowing schools to run an exciting race experience with minimal setup. 

STEM Racing Discovery has raised the profile of STEM in our school, giving students a safe space to explore, test, and improve their ideas. It’s also helped us boost diversity in STEM, with students showing real enthusiasm and building on their knowledge.
