Guidance on Submitting Student Work for Competitions
Published 14th May 2026
We are often contacted by schools seeking guidance on whether student work can be submitted for competitions or exhibitions while it is still within the assessment and moderation period.
The JCQ document Instructions for Conducting Non-Examination Assessments states that, from the point of submission for formal assessment until the deadline for requesting a review of results, copies of work may be used for other purposes (such as competitions), provided the original work remains securely stored by the centre.
It is only for subjects where original work is required for moderation, such as Art & Design, a teacher must be present if assessed work is exhibited, taken to an interview, or removed from secure storage for any other reason during this period. This does not apply to D&T.
Refer to the JCQ Instructions for Conducting Non-Examination Assessments for full details.
