Handling collections & properties of materials

Published 5th April 2017

The iD&T:WM schools attended a twilight meeting at the end of March, which focussed on handling collections and supporting the delivery of ‘Properties of Materials’ within the core element of the new D&T GCSE.  This was a practical session, with the teachers trialling and feeding back on a variety of handling collections which the D&T Association are developing.  These handling collections will be supported by a comprehensive resource designed to support all D&T teachers, regardless of their specialism in the delivery of this element of the curriculum.

Early in April, we will be running a session at UTC WMG Coventry.  This session, led by Andrew Kyprianou, Head of Faculty for Engineering and Design, will include practical activities as the group explore ways of developing engineering projects and advice on engaging with local employers.

The focus of activity moving forward will be on disruptive technologies; specifically, robotics and 3D printing as well as preparing and delivering Key Stage 4.
