Malvern Primary School Receives D&T Quality Mark

Published 27th May 2026

Malvern Primary School is celebrating after successfully achieving the Design and Technology Quality Mark from the Design & Technology Association, recognising the school’s commitment to high-quality design and technology education.

The award acknowledges the work taking place across the school to deliver a carefully planned curriculum that provides pupils with memorable and engaging practical learning experiences.

At Malvern, pupils take part in a wide range of D&T projects across areas, helping them develop creativity, practical capability and resilience through hands-on learning.

Speaking about the achievement, Alex Carr highlighted the role the school’s values play in shaping its curriculum approach.

At Malvern we have a carefully crafted knowledge-rich curriculum that provides memorable and enriching experiences for all pupils. We pride ourselves on our ‘KIND’ values, with N standing for nurturing and D for daring. We nurture all talents and it is nice to see this being done through D&T, whether that be sewing, cooking or woodwork. Children are being daring by trying new skills and becoming resilient through the iterative process they work through in D&T projects.

Alex also reflected on the importance of encouraging pupils to take risks and learn through the iterative nature of design projects.

Pupils at the school also spoke positively about their experiences within D&T lessons.

I like D&T because we do three projects every year and each one is different. It gives us something to look forward to and helps us improve each time. I like how D&T links to real life, like cooking, building and designing things people actually use. My favourite project was cooking a three-course Mexican meal. We get to think like inventors.

The achievement highlights the positive impact that ambitious and practical D&T teaching can have in helping pupils develop confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills from an early age.
