Snack-tember: new British Nutrition Foundation campaign to support healthy snacking in schools

Published 29th May 2025

A brand-new initiative from the British Nutrition Foundation is launching this September – and it’s all about snacks!

Snack-tember is a month-long campaign designed to help children and young people aged 5–16 explore their current snacking habits and discover healthier, sustainable alternatives – with teachers supported every step of the way.

Rather than a one-week focus, this year the usual Healthy Eating Week is being transformed into something even bigger. Snack-tember will run throughout September 2025, giving teachers more time and flexibility to engage their pupils with this important topic.

What’s included?

The British Nutrition Foundation will be providing a full set of free, practical resources to help bring healthy snacking into the classroom, including:

  • Fun and engaging classroom materials
  • Activity ideas to get pupils thinking differently about snacks
  • Posters and printables to bring your display boards to life
  • Tried-and-tested, pupil-friendly recipes
  • Insights from over 2,000 young people, taken from The Great Snack Survey

There’s a special focus this year on young people in their first two years of secondary school – a crucial stage where they begin to make more independent choices. Teachers in these settings are especially encouraged to get involved.

Why take part?

Snack-tember is all about supporting teachers to:

  • Start positive conversations around food and health
  • Encourage pupils to make informed, confident choices
  • Embed healthy, sustainable habits that can last a lifetime

The British Nutrition Foundation is aiming to reach 6,000 schools and over 1 million young people with this campaign – and your school could be one of them.

How to get involved

Teachers, clubs and schools can sign up to take part and access all resources free of charge.
