I loved every part of the project, especially creating my final design in CAD. My idea was a portable baby bottle warmer that gives parents the flexibility to heat a baby’s bottle in different locations.
Mamas & Papas Context in Practice
The Inspired by Industry Mamas & Papas context has demonstrated the impact that real-world design briefs can have on student engagement, skill development and career awareness. At Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, the project was embedded into the Key Stage 3 curriculum, providing students with the opportunity to design for a recognised global brand within the baby and parenting sector. Students were challenged to respond to a client brief, designing products aimed at making everyday life easier and more manageable for parents.
Connecting Education with Industry
Students gained insight into the expectations, constraints and opportunities faced by designers in real-world settings. Structured resources, including detailed briefs and supporting videos filmed with the team at Mamas & Papas, provided a professional framework that enabled students to approach their work with purpose and intent. This helped to raise the quality of outcomes and supported a deeper understanding of user-centred design.
From Ideas to Prototypes
The design process was highly iterative. Students explored a wide range of concepts, from multifunctional baby carriers to portable bottle warmers, demonstrating both creativity and practical thinking. Using tools such as Autodesk Fusion alongside physical modelling techniques, students were able to bring their ideas to life with increasing precision. This combination of digital and hands-on making reflects contemporary industry practice and supports the development of transferable technical skills.
