Curriculum and Lesson Planning KS2 Primary CAD

This step-by-step tutorial introduces Tinkercad, showing how this free and accessible CAD platform can be used to bring digital design into the classroom from Key Stage 2 onwards. It explains how teachers can create an educator account, set up classes and activities, and provide pupils with a class code so they can participate without creating individual accounts.

The presentation explores the main Tinkercad interface and introduces key tools, including viewpoints, object libraries, Scribble, basic shapes, accurate dimensions, copying and duplicating components, and grouping objects. It also explains how solid and negative shapes can be combined to create more complex three dimensional models, alongside alternative modes for circuits, coding, Minecraft and LEGO designs.

Ideal for teachers and pupils who are new to CAD, the tutorial provides a clear foundation for using Tinkercad confidently across a range of classroom projects. It supports links with mathematics, engineering and computing, while showing how finished designs can be developed into orthographic drawings, files for vinyl cutting or physical models produced through 3D printing.
