Our Mission and Values
Advocating For D&T
The Design & Technology Association supports, develops and promotes high-quality design and technology teaching and learning as an essential part of the rounded education of all young people. We link schools and students with the world of business, manufacturing and industry and lobby government and key decision-makers to ensure that the subject’s value is recognised and supported.
Values
- We believe that all students, irrespective of social background, gender, sexual orientation or culture, have a right to experience creativity, aesthetic appreciation and design thinking within their curriculum offer.
- We believe in the value of a holistic education, within which skills, knowledge and understanding are of equal value, delivered through a broad and relevant curriculum.
- We believe that Design and Technology has value in its own right, providing students with a design education and key personal skills that will stay with them for life, enabling all students to play an active role in enriching wider society.
Values in Action
- We promote innovation and the concept of sound, equitable business values.
- Design can make the world a better place. We believe our subject promotes design thinking that relates to and engages students with real global and local challenges. Through this, we believe Design and Technology can be the catalyst that excites learners to want to make a difference in the world.
- Collaboration is at the heart of our organisation. We seek to work in partnership with others to promote creativity and a better education for all.
- Design and technology bridges the arts and science/technology, allowing students to join up knowledge and become confident conceptual thinkers and problem solvers.
