As a graduate of Industrial Design with extensive experience in both school and higher education settings, Rhys Thomas brings a wealth of expertise to Design and Technology education and health and safety practice.
Having taught across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, Rhys has developed strong subject knowledge across a broad range of Design and Technology disciplines. He holds a PGCE in Design and Technology, a PGCHE, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
A significant part of Rhys's career has focused on the development of Design and Technology teachers. He has supported trainee teachers across multiple training routes, including Teach First, School Direct, Open University and PGCE pathways, and has held leadership positions within Initial Teacher Education as a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for Secondary PGCE Design and Technology, while also contributing to Primary BA and PGCE programmes through leading the foundation studies course content for primary D&T.
Since qualifying as a Registered Design and Technology Health and Safety Consultant (RDTHSC) in 2014, Rhys has delivered a wide range of health and safety training programmes for schools, educational organisations and workplace settings. His work includes both initial and refresher training for teachers, technicians, trainee teachers, and support staff, covering the safe use of tools, equipment, machinery, textiles equipment, and food preparation facilities. He is passionate about helping schools create safe, compliant, and effective learning environments that enable high-quality Design and Technology education.
