Design Technology is a wonderfully inspiring subject. Providing young people with an understanding of how technology and creative design can inspire their own inquisitiveness is an essential part the curriculum. To support students in gaining such experience, it is essential that staff are taught correct equipment operation and practical techniques, together with workshop-based guidance about training and supervising young people within a practical environment.
With a base on the south coast, my bespoke in-school training courses are structured around your specific requirements and are mindful of the participants’ previous knowledge and experience. Always delivered in your own school thus promoting familiarity with your own equipment for up to six staff members, my training is structured to cover the elements within each of the DATA units that you select, according to the training time available. My training fully supports both teaching and support staff.
I have extensive practical ‘hands-on’ training and assessment experience based on a wood machining craft apprenticeship in industry and a wide range of experience in shop fitting and general building. I taught wood trades in further education before leading a DT department for 20 years, whilst also being part of the Senior Leadership Team as an Assistant Headteacher. In addition to being a RDTHSC, I also hold the NEBOSH certificate and have extensive experience in mentoring both teaching and support staff.
My specialisms focus on the secondary health and safety core, all equipment within the secondary materials unit and all of the specialist woodworking units. This coverage is supplemented by the unit written for health and safety for DT Technicians.
