Trained in Furniture Design and Technology at the London College of Furniture, then obtained my teaching qualification at Middlesex Polytechnic. Whilst teaching, I completed a degree with honours in Art and Technology History with the OU.
I taught D&T, Resistant Materials, Graphic Products, Systems and Control and Engineering in Essex comprehensive schools for 34 years full-time and 8 years part-time. This was at KS3 and KS4, GCSE and A-Level.
Throughout my years of teaching and consultancy work I have gained a wealth of experience on school workshop machines, tools and equipment, their safe use and general workshop safety considerations.
I am a big supporter of Design Technology in schools, its continuance and growth. I view health and safety as a gateway for learners to access the subject and consequently, the significance of anyone working with learners in workshop environments, at any level, being fully cognisant of H&S protocol is paramount.
I enjoy working in school environments and interacting with teachers and school staff. In my spare time I’m a wood turner and pyrographist.
