GCSE Textiles Rescue - Lapped Zip

Ages 14 to 16

This practical video introduces the lapped zip and explains how the technique can be used to create a neat fastening with the zip concealed beneath a fold of fabric.

The demonstration guides students through preparing and pressing the seam, positioning and pinning the zip, changing to a zipper foot and stitching each side accurately. It also shows how to form the fabric overlap and complete the visible line of topstitching for a secure, professional finish.

The twelve minute video can be used to introduce the technique, support a classroom demonstration or help GCSE students develop accuracy and confidence when inserting zips into textile products and garments.
