GCSE Textiles Rescue - Open Seam

Ages 14 to 16

This practical video introduces the open seam and explains how it can be used to join pieces of fabric neatly and securely in textile products and garments.

The demonstration guides students through positioning the fabric with the right sides together, pinning and machining an accurate seam, pressing the seam allowances open and finishing the raw edges to prevent fraying.

The five minute video can be used to introduce the technique, support a classroom demonstration or help GCSE students improve the accuracy and quality of their textile construction skills.
