Wearable Technology
Context Overview
Wearable technology covers a wide range of applications across health care, leisure and communication, integrating digital systems into everyday products. In this context, students are asked to explore ‘Supporting an athlete with wearable technology’, considering how data, comfort, ergonomics and user needs can inform the design of innovative wearable solutions.

This free context covers the full design, make and evaluate process, while also incorporating investigate and evaluate activities and relevant focused tasks. It provides opportunities to explore fabrics and polymers, alongside prototyping materials such as card and expanded foam, with a strong focus on electronics and systems and control. Students may use programmable components such as micro:bit or Crumble to develop responsive prototypes that react to external inputs, linking directly to shaping, forming and joining, electronics and programmable systems within the National Curriculum.
