Teachers In Residence
Teachers can take part in the Teachers In Residence (TiR) programme, offering a valuable internship experience with industry. TiR has a strong track record of benefits for both teachers and the companies involved.
What is Teachers In Residence?
UK-based design, engineering, manufacturing, or construction companies can host a three- to five-day Teachers In Residence (TiR) internship. This gives a design and technology teacher a hands-on insight into your day-to-day operations across different departments, providing a full picture of working in modern industry.
By taking part, you help a teacher gain a deeper understanding of the skills and attributes needed in today’s workplace, while highlighting clear career pathways for their students. Teachers are likely to share their positive experience with their pupils, enhancing your company’s reputation.
The programme also benefits teaching, as teachers return to the classroom with a stronger understanding of local industry and its expectations.
The Teachers in Residence programme has given me a great insight into what engineering employers are looking for in employees, helping to ensure our pupils have the knowledge, skills and aptitude for the employment roles that are offered
What is required from the company?
Your company will give the teacher practical, hands-on experience over an agreed period. You’ll provide an overview of how the business operates, with a particular focus on the career pathways available to young people entering the workforce.
Supporting teachers and students
We’ll work with you to create an engaging programme that gives teachers a deeper insight into modern industry. They will see how this connects with classroom learning and gain practical ways to guide and support their students in making informed decisions about future career paths.
Supporting industry
Your company can build strong connections with schools and teachers. By giving teachers the chance to work closely with your business, you help improve student learning and careers guidance, as teachers return to the classroom more confident and better informed to support the next generation.
