Curriculum and Lesson Planning KS2 Primary

KS2 poster encouraging pupils to explore everyday designed products, match items to descriptions and use them as inspiration for creative design investigations.

Age 9-11 years
First published 2011
Updated 2021

This classroom display poster is designed to stimulate older children to think about the amazing world of designed and made products. Items featured on the poster include a coat hanger, a thermos flask, sticky notes, a ball point pen, an egg box, a pencil, bubble wrap and Velcro. Where do these great ideas come from? Can they match the product with the product description? You might want to use this as a stimulus for a designing project, getting children to consider where ideas might come from and how existing objects can be adapted to create new ones. It would also be useful to have solid examples of these and other objects for the children to handle and investigate.

The updated poster was included in issue 1.2021 of D&T Practice magazine. In this resource the descriptions and images used are also provided so you can print them on separate cards or adapt the resource for your children, with the text in Word format also. The answers to the prompt questions are also included.
