This PowerPoint presentation is designed to be used as an in-service resource to enable members of a D&T department to develop an understanding of approaches to developing and communicating ideas for products.
The assessment objectives for the D&T GCSE state that in the Non Examined Assessment candidates will be assessed on the following:
- AO1 Identify, investigate and outline design possibilities to address needs and wants
- AO2 Design and make prototypes that are fit for purpose
- AO3 Analyse and evaluate design decisions and outcomes, including for prototypes made by themselves and others

Important in the design process is generating initial design ideas (available as a separate CPD resource) and how these ideas can be moved forwards and developed into a product that can be produced in prototype form and the ideas communicated to others using a range of approaches.
This resource forms part of a set of CPD resources aimed at modernising your design and technology curriculum at a time when there is a clear need for modernisation in the subject to develop students’ skills and knowledge and to help furnish the needs of industry.
