What is Teachers In Residence?
Teachers in Residence (TiR) is a three to five-day industry experience connecting design and technology teachers with UK-based companies across design, engineering, manufacturing and construction.
Teachers gain first-hand experience of how industry operates, while companies have an opportunity to share their knowledge, showcase career pathways and build meaningful relationships with teachers and schools.
It’s a partnership designed to benefit both sides.

Teachers in Residence gives you the opportunity to experience industry from the inside.
Over three to five days, you'll gain an insight into:
- How a modern business operates
- The different roles and departments within an organisation
- The skills, knowledge and attributes employers are looking for
- Career pathways available to young people
- How industry applies the knowledge and skills you develop through design and technology
Most importantly, you'll be able to bring those experiences back to your pupils, helping you make learning more relevant and support them to make informed decisions about their futures.
The Teachers in Residence programme has given me a great insight into what engineering employers are looking for in employees, helping to ensure our pupils have the knowledge, skills and aptitude for the employment roles that are offered
